During recent months, people with physical and/or sensory disabilities from across the Southern Health and Social Care Trust, have been participating in a range of leisure based respite activities, including Off Road Driving, Zip Lining and Archery at Todds Leap Activity Centre, Ballygawley, Gliding at the Ulster Gliding Club, Bellarena and Team Building Events, at local Leisure Centres.

Oliver McKee, a participant from Armagh explains “Fit 4 U gives you an escape from the loneliness and is something to look forward to. I can always draw inspiration from the others around me, who all have different types of disabilities.”

Nigel Stothers, participant from Banbridge comments: “Ido activities which I enjoy, which raises my self- esteem and confidence.  I enjoy meeting people, socialising and generally feeling great about myself and ignoring my Disability.”

Rhonda Richardson, Fit 4 U Project Officer with the Southern Trust explains: “Todds Leap and the Ulster Gliding Club have made several adaptions to their facilities, in terms of new premises, ramps and adapted equipment for disabled users, which has greatly improved access to leisure opportunities for people with disabilities.

Rhonda added: “Fit 4 U aims to empower people with physical/sensory disabilities to improve their health through participation in a range of physical activity and leisure opportunities.
