'Have A Go'

12 October 2013 at 11:30

Saturday 12th October will see the launch of a new initiative to encourage blind and partially sighted people to become more active through running or walking.

'Have A Go'

Mary Peters Track Belfast

Saturday 12th October

From 11.30am

We have been working very closely with ParkRun (www.parkrun.org.uk) to establish a network of sighted guides to support those with a visual impairment who want to become more active. We are encouraging people of all abilities to take part; from those taking their first steps in running to Olympians or even those just interested in taking regular walking exercise. Guides will be available on the day for those who want to walk or to try running for the first time. The 'network' will then facilitate local running and walking opportunities.

Participants will gather from 11.30am for a 12.00pm start and we anticipate finishing up no later than 2.00pm.

We would be most grateful if your team could share this information with as many people as possible, including anyone with sight who is interested in becoming a 'running' guide. This is an exciting initiative aimed at supporting and complementing existing local walking groups. We hope as many people as possible are able to join us on the day, which is where the 'network' of local guides will be invaluable.

If you require further information, or know someone who can't make it on the day but would like to get involved, please contact me at the Belfast Mobility Team Office tel:  08453727402 or by email andrew.murdock@guidedogs.org.uk
