HIGHLY COMMENDED AT GREATER NEWRY BUSINESS AWARDS 2013 Clanrye Retail Social Enterprise was delighted to receive the news that they had received a Highly Commended Award for the Best Social Enterprise in the Greater Newry Area Business Awards. The Event took place at a Gala Awards Ceremony in the Canal Court Hotel, Newry on 12 September 2013.
Clanrye Retail Social Enterprise supports and trains individuals who have a physical disability in retail related skills through offering work experience and accredited qualifications. The social enterprise known as Heart & Home operates a gift shop, and ecommerce site www.heartandhomeonline.comand the Award was given in recognition of how the retail social enterprise has achieved sustainable social change over profit maximisation.
Judith Poucher Project Manager said that both staff and participants were delighted to receive the Award, adding that Heart & Home offered customers the opportunity to purchase a unique gift in the knowledge that they are supporting the training needs of individuals with a physical disability.
An emerging element of the retail social enterprise is the design and creation of small items for sale in Heart and Home. The project works with trainees to produce chalkboards and personalised frames and encourages trainees with an interest in the craft industry to gain knowledge and practical experience in all elements involved in the setting up of a craft based business. This helps them determine if self-employment would be a viable option for them as they progress in their readiness to seek suitable employment.
